Parent Support Group

The Parent Support Group (PSG) at Immaculate Conception School is an integral part of the school community and is very supportive of the school and the Council. All parents are automatically members of the PSG and are invited and encouraged to become involved in the activities and endeavors. We have had an amazing few years with some great achievements.

Parent Support Group Achievements and Purchases:

In 2008 the Parent Support Group decided to reduce the small fundraisers like chocolates, catalogs, wrapping paper, etc and focus their resources on one large Gala fundraiser each year.  This Gala is hosted in April and features a dinner, dance, live entertainment, silent auction and a live auction.

Funds Raised at the Gala         2008  $19,000

2009  $34,000

2010  $29,500

The funds raised by the Gala have been used by the Parent Support Group for their operating budget that includes items like textbooks, classroom furniture, staff Christmas gifts, field trip funds, classroom funds, family bbqs, student awards, hot lunch start up costs, and many more wish list items that the staff requests.  Click here to see last year’s income and expenses statement.

The Gala has also had a focused project that it has completed each year. Here are some of the great projects that, with your help, the PSG have completed:

TRAIL SYSTEM
In 2008 this project was a Trail System.  This included an engineered trail around the school grounds and through the woods for the children to walk and run on as well as two bridges, two benches, two new pieces of equipment and many many yards of gravel and limestone rock.  We also purchased and planted over 40 trees.    The PSG donated over $15,000 to this ongoing project.

FINE ARTS FOCUS
In 2009 we wanted to focus on the Arts.  The PSG purchased a $10,000 stage, a new piano, a complete sound system, camcorder, rhythm set and drama supplies as well as theatre productions, concerts and a stage backdrop.  The total amount the PSG donated to the Fine Arts was over $21,000.

FIELD PROJECT

In 2010 in conjunction with the Parish Council the entire funds raised by the Gala would contribute to a huge project to completely redo the playing field.  The old field did not have proper drainage and was unusable a great deal of the year.  The project consisted of tying in to the city drainage system, new soil and drainage rock and new grass.  The PSG contributed over $29,000 to this project.

The affairs of the PSG are managed by a board of elected officers. The term for the positions is from January to December of each year with elections being held at the January meeting.

Meetings are held monthly on the fourth Tuesday of the month in the school library. The meetings start at 6:30 pm and run until approximately 8:00 pm

The meetings are informal and friendly and are a great opportunity for parents to find out what is happening at the school and to meet other parents and school staff. The Principal and one staff member attend the meetings.

The PSG also maintains a mailing list and sends out emails regarding up coming events, uniforms, and other school happenings. If you would like to receive these emails please send an email to Tracey Fuller at tfuller3@telus.net

If you have any questions about the PSG you can email any of the executive members listed below.
